When a motorist who had omitted to renew his driving license appeared in the Dunedin Magistrate’s Court the other mbrning he gave as his excuse the fact that he had been extremely worried by his wife's illness, and in the stress of anxious moments had forgotten all about his license. The magistrate solicitously inquired as to the nature of the illness, u query that drew the rather sheepish admission: “Weil. I ultimately became a father!” He was still fined, but managed to escape costs.
