NEW MAYOR OF PARIS
Former Prefect, of Police (Received June 25. 7.30 p.m.) Paris, June 25. M. Chiapp, former police chief, has been elected president of the Municipal Council, otherwise Mayor. M. Chiappe, the famous Prefect of Police in France, was removed from office following the Stavisky scandal anti the subsequent rioting at Paris. The action was taken by the Government of M Daladier, which succeeded that of M. Chau temps, and shortly afterward gave way to that of M. Doumergue. M. Chiappe was offered a post as Resident-General of Morocco, but declined to accept it.
