APPEAL DISMISSED
Man Sentenced to Death London, June 24. Ruling out a plea that Mrs. Rattenbury and Stoner should have been tried separately, the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Hewart, dismissed the appeal without hearing the Crown and without permitting Stoner to give evidence. Crowds queued up for hours. Mrs. Van der Elst, the wealthy business woman who is conducting a campaign against capital punishment,' sat with Stoner’s counsel and paraded with sandwichmen at the entrances to the court.
After a five days’ trial, George Percy Stoner, aged 19, was found guilty of murdering Francis Mawson Rattenbury. aged 67, a retired architect, on March 24. lie was sentenced to death. Mrs. Alma Rattenbury, aged 31, who was jointly charged with murder, was acquitted, but some days later was seen to jump into the River Stour. She was dead when taken out.
