The Big Fleet of the

Court Line

IMPROVED TRADE Carrying a general cargo, comprising mainly newsprint, radio sets, but including also a large assortment of miscellaneous merchandise, the British motor-ship Aldington Court arrived at Wellington yesterday morning from New York, via Auckland. The Aldington Court, which is making her first visit to Wellington, Is one of a fleet of 26 cargo vessels owned by Haldin and Philipps. Ltd. (United British Steam Ship Company) of London, and usually known as the Court Line. All the ships arc named after English “seats” or mansions, as for example. Cressington Court. Arlington Aldington Court and the Cressington Court, etc. With the exception of the Aldington Court ami the Kensington Court, which are propelled by Diesel engines, all the ships of the fleet are steamers. The Aldington Court, which was built at Sunderland in 1929. is a motor-ship of 4891 tons gross register, and is fitted with a Doxford opposedpiston three-cylinder Diesel engine, A remarkable example of the improvement that has taken place during the last three years in the shipping industry was cited by Captain Camp, of the Aldington Court, in respect of his company’s ships. Of the 26 ships of the Court Line, there was for a short period three years ago only the Aldington Court in commission, but now only the five oldest ships of the company’s fleet were laid up.
