WAGES INCREASED

Manawatu-Oroua Power Board Employees

Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, June 10. Restorations of the wages aud salaries of employees of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board were decided upon at a meeting of the board to-day, on the recommendation of its executive committee. The salaries of all members_of tbe staff who are receiving up to £225. inclusive, are to be increased by 2J per eent. The cut of 5 per cent, made in the wages paid to members of the outside staff of gangers and linesmen is to be restored, and no work is to be carried out on Saturday mornings as in the past. Increases are also to be made in the salaries of two clerks.

Mr. M. A. Eliott congratulated the executive on the action it had taken. He would, however, have liked to see the whole of the cuts restored. If it was not too late he would like to move in that direction now. Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., asked what the amount would be if the whole of the cuts were restored. He thought it would not be very great and said he would like to see . the whole restorations made. He moved as an amendment that the restoration of 21 per eent. should include all members of the staff. The managing-secretary, Mr. K. W. Eglinton, said that the restorations as recommended by the executive committee involved a sum of £172/19/6. plus two small increases. To restore in full the salaries and wages would involve £361 18/9. . ...
