IMPROVED SYSTEM
Borough Council Office — s I.u view of the fact that the balancesheet of the I’etone Borough Council was “tagged” when received back from the Audit Department, Cr. C. J. Ashton inquired at the meeting of the Dower Hutt Borough Council last night if the Lower Hutt Borough Council’s balance-sheet was similarly “tagged” in respect to refunds on petrol tax. The mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, replied that tile balance-sheet did not have a “tag” but it had comment on it. “What does the borough lose through that neglect?” asked Cr. Ashton. The amount, said the mayor, was about £6. The refund was not allowed by Audit because the application was sent iu too late. Tiie system in the council's office now, however, would, he thought, prevent a similar occurrence, and the icsponsibil-.
ity of getting the returu iu it: time was now absolutely the responsibility of the town clerk. Cr. J. Mitchell protested about the amount of ratepayers’ money that was wasted in eases like that.
