Opposition to Contract

Opposition to the proposal to have dust and refuse removals done by contract was expressed by Cr. P. Dowse, who, at last night’s meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council, described the question as a very contentious one aud suggested that the work should be done by the council staff. Speaking of the present system, he said that on windy days be bad seen refuse being blown out of the cart. The mayor, Mr. J. W r . Andrews: Not recently. “Three weeks ago.” retorted Cr. Dowse.

"I thought all that had changed, for definite instructions have been issued about it.” said the mayor. Cr. R. M. Russell said be had seen what Cr. Dowse complained of only last Friday. It was decided that the engineer shoukl bring down a. report on wbnt the work would cost the council, the report to be considered with the tenders.
