BOROUGH LIGHTING
Position at Lower Hutt “As you know, there have been complaints recently from people who want more lighting in the borough,” said the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, at last night’s meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council. But, he proceeded, there were lights provided by the borough which were not burning; one of them had been out for four months, andat was only noticed recently. Also there had been wanton /destruction of lights: five bad been destroyed at Normandale by rifle fire. The' Mayor said be would like councillors to draw attention to these things when they noticed them. Cr. W. A. F. Hall said the council had put a lot of lights out of action for economy reasons, and heasked what was the position now. ; The best time to discuss that would be when the estimates were under consideration, ■ said the Mayor. ■ who added that 1 he was having discussions at the present time with Mr. E. F. Hollands, secretary and general manager of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board, to see if a cheaper way of lighting could not be arrived at.
