North Island Match To-day PALMERSTON NORTH GAME The first of the three trial matches which are to be played this week in order to select the New Zealand Rugby team to tour Great Britain this year will be played at Palmerston North this afternoon. It will be between teams representing the North Island Possibles and Probables. The teams win lie as follow:— POSSIBLES. Full-back: Pollock (Wellington). Three-quarters: Apsey (Hawke’s Bay), Stringfellow ( Wairarapa ) Bul-lock-Douglas (Wanganui). Five-eighths: Hedge (Auckland), first, and Lilburne (Wellington), second. Half-back: Tindill (Wellington). Back of scrum: F. Solomon (Auckland). Middle row: Harrison (Taranaki), Steere (Wanganui). Trass (Wairarapa). McLean (Auckland). Front row: Pastier (Taranaki), Lambourn (Wellington). Hull (Wellington). PROBABLES. Full-back: G. Nepia (East Coa»t). Three-quarters: Smith (Hawke’s Bay), M. Campbell (Wanganui), Brown (Auckland). » Five-eighths; Page (Wellington), first. Griffiths. The referee will bo Mr. W. 11. Rowe, of Wanganui. E. R. Cl. Steere will captain the Possibles fifteen, and F. D, Kilby will lead the Probables side. All that is required to ensure Rugby of high quality is fine weather. Advice from Palmerston North last evening stated that the heavy rain that foil during the week-end had made the ground heavy, but a strong wind was fast drying up the turf, and playing conditions were expected to be first-class to-day. BRIGHT FOOTBALL Scots College Beats Durham Cadets Bright Rugby was witnessed at Scots College yesterday afternoon in a match in which the college first fifteen beat a team from the cadets on the New Zealand Shipping Company’s Durham by 13 points to 11. The teams were Scots College: Collins minor: Sygrove major, Hunter (captain), Robertson; Blytb, Hill minor: King; McConnell, Yeatman. Wall, Crystall, Collins major, Turner, Brown, Culley.' _ Durham Cadets: Rawnsley; Birkin, Sindall, Ball, Ross; McKinnon; Williams; Spiller, Massy, Johnston, Jones, Butler. Osborne. Tegetineier (captain), Colombi. . Tlie first spell was very evenly contested, both sides scoring 8 points. Hunter, the Scots College captain, scored two tries, one of which he converted, and Birkin and Massy crossed the line for the cadets, Tegetineier improving one of the tries. Hunter’s first try was gained after he had gone right through the opposition from Ids own twenty-five. In the second spell, Brown scored fl try for the college, which Hunter converted, and Spiller crossed the line for the cadets, but Tegetmeler failed to add the extra points. The cadets had an advantage in weight forward, and their backs threw the ball about in approved British style, but the college fifteen had better combination. The cadets strove hard in the dying stages to secure victory, but. the Scots College lads lasted well, and did their share of attacking. Mr. G. E. Vercoe was the referee. A fair crowd of spectators included Mr. J R. Sutcliffe, principal of Scots College, and a good number of the ship's company, who cheered their lads ou.
