The Dominion. SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 1935. THE KING’S REPRESENTATIVE

There could be no mistaking the sincerity and cordiality ot the welcome accorded their Excellencies Lord and Lady Galway by the people of Wellington on the occasion of their official landing yesterday. The New Zealand people’s relationships and contacts with his Majesty s representatives in the past have been most happy, and our new Governor-General’s experience of his first official day in the Dominion will no doubt have impressed him with a sense of gratification that in this country’s vice-regal traditions he has a most valuable asse,. That this will increase under his own care the citizens of Wellington who had their first and very pleasant encounter with him at the civic reception in the Town Hall last evening will have every confidence In his reply to the address of welcome Lord Galway revealed one of the characteristics of the soldier, brevity and simplicity pi speech; but there could be no mistaking the earnestness and sincerity of hopes expressed by him that his Governor-Generalship would be marked by frequent and cordial contacts with the people. . Ihe citizens of this country will look forward with friendly anticipation to making closer acquaintance with their Excellencies during their sojourn in this country, and there is little doubt that Impel lai sentiment an< loyalty to the Throne will be further enhanced in consequence.
