FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.

Mainly fair; cold temperatures. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for 24 hours ending 4 p.m. to-day: — An anti-cyclone extends from the north Tasman Sea across New Zealand, pressure being highest off the Canterbury coast. A depression is located, off East Cape, however, and one is also situated over the south-west Tasman Sea. Forecast: Moderate northerly winds over the southern half of the South Island; elsewhere moderate to strong southerly, of gale force at places about Cook Strait, but soon moderating; becoming northerly to-day generally from Cook Strait southward, and freshening again. . c . Moderate southerly winds in the northern portion of the eastern Tasman Sea, witli moderate seas; easterly veering to freshening northerlies in the southern portion, with rising seas. . Seas rough north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura; elsewhere in New Zealand waters moderate, but later rising about Foveaux Strait. Weather squally and showery in the east eoast and far northern portions of the North Island, heafy showers being likely between Hawkes Lay and the Bay of Plenty, but improving to-day. Elsewhere mainly fair, but later becoming unsettled in South Westland and the far south. Cold temperatures. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER Wellington.— lt was cold and mostly cloudy in Wellington with a squally southerly wind and an occasional light shower. Minimum temperature during Thursday night, 48.2 deg.; maximum yesterday, 56.1 deg.; at 4 p.m., o4.ldeg. Rainfall at “The Dominion” building for the 24 hours to midnight: 0.4 a inches. Rainfall for April to date: 0.82 inches; for year, 10.16 inches. Palmerston North.— Cold aud bleak throughout the day, with a strong southerly, threatening sky and occasional showers. Masterton. — Overcast, with rain threatening; cold southerly wind. Wanganui— Heavy rain throughout the morning, but clearing just after midday, the cloudy conditions remaining, with temperatures falling rapidly. Wainukurau.—A sudden change. Heavy rain set in from the south-east and continued throughout the day. and it was extremely cold. Maximum temperature, 54deg., compared with SOdeg. the previous day. Christchurch. Fine, with a maximum temperature ot 59.3 deg. Light south-west wind. Barometer high and steady; now 30.30iu. Dunedin. — Fine with bright sunshine and a light north-east breeze. Maximum temperature for the day, 60deg. The barometer, winch rose sharply last night, was fairly steady and stood at 30.25 in. at midday. Auckland —Boisterous southerly wind and unsettled weather, showers being experienced during the early morning. Barometer steady all day at 30.00 m.
