COMING ELECTIONS

Intention of Makara Councillors Their intentions in the coming municipal elections were revealed by two members of the Makara County Council at its meeting yesterday. Cr. E. Windley intimated that he would probably seek reelection to the county council, but would not stand for the Hutt Valley Eelectric Power Board or the Wellington Hospital Board. The chairman, Mr. R. W. Bothamley, announced that he intended to seek re-election to the power board. Mr. Windley said he had represented the Makara county and the Johnsonville district for about 15 years. He had occupied the position only because no-one else had been prepared to come forward, but now the position had changed, and in any case, he had intended to withdraw. He paid a tribute to the work done by representatives on the board—work which did not come greatly under the public’s notice. He had no intention of standing for the power board, and he complimented the chairman on his ivork as the council’s representative during the past term. • As representing the Belmont riding on the council he would probably seek re-election, although he had not definitely made up his mind, continued Cr. Windley. He had heard of no opposition, but he had been asked to stand. The chairman said the council and the inhabitants of the county owed Cr. Windley a deep debt of. gratitude for his service on the hospital board. He was sorry Cr. Windley was not seeking reelection.
