Burglary at Palmerston SAFE RESISTS GELIGNITE Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, April 11. An unsuccessful attempt was made to blow open a large steel safe in Messrs. Goldingham and Beckett’s warehouse in King Street last night. The intruders stole a quantity of tobacco and cigarettes. The safe was situated in the office of Mr F. S. Goldingham right on the street frontage. The first lock of the safe was blown to pieces with gelignite, but the second lock resisted the efforts of the intruders.' A strongroom in another portion of the building was not touched. Private papers were emptied from two suitcases in Mr. Goldingham’s office. The suitcases were apparently used to carry away the stolen cigarettes and tobacco. In the office of the warehouse manager, Mr. W. J. Honore, a cupboard was opened and a screwdriver taken from it was utilised to force open a door leading into the main office. A search was apparently made for monej by the intruders, and the pockets of employees’ coats were ransacked. Drawers were rifled in various parts of the warehouse, but no cash was found.
