SEVEN STORIES

Imposing Featherston Street Block NEW A.P.A. BUILDING A Handsome Structure The Australian Provincial Assurance Association, Ltd., usually referred to as "the A.1’.A.,” has acquired the vacant section in Featherston Street, Wellington, adjoining the present premises at tlie corner of Grey and Featherston Streets, and has decided to commence the erection of a large building as soon as plans, now in preparation, are, completed. Wellington’s skyline in the vicinity of the General Post Office will therefore shortly have a further marked change in outline. The actual site lies between the Union Bank premises on one side and the A.l’.A. building on the other, and on this it is proposed to erect a modern seven-story building, and when construction is started Featherston Street’s one remaining vacant section will be occupied. The A.P.A. proposes to c-Orordinate its existing building with the new one, and to modernise the existing building, thus creating a thoroughly up-to-date corner block of shops and offices. The ground floor of the 'new premises will be occupied by the A.P.A. Association’s head office for New Zealand, and the upper stories will be available for tenants. The external facade of the building, which will be of seven stories, will be finished in granite and coloured plaster, and with the remodelling of the present building to conform with the treatment of the new one, it is expected thaj, this important corner will provide an imposing and artistic addition to the array of fine buildings in the vicinity. Tlie plans are being prepared by Mr. Win. E. Lavelle, A.N.Z.1.A., and work will be commenced as soon as these are finalised. The insurance companies are giving a fine lead to investors so far as confidence in the future of Wellington is concerned.
