British Official Arrested OCCURRENCE IN ITALY Rome, April 9. The British Embassy has protested to the Italian Government regarding the arrest of Jlr. Hugh Montgomery, First Secretary to the British Legation in Vatican City, who. during a cycling tour in Southern Italy, was questioned by the police and imprisoned for two days, although his papers were in order, and prevented from communicating with the British Consul. He was finally released with apologies. The police explain that two Germans, allegedly spying, were arrested in the neighbourhood and they thought Mr. Montgomery resembled a German.
