FIRE HAZARD REDUCED

New Protective Devices Fire, it would be thought, would be a very small hazard in a building of the construction of the Prudential Assurance Company’s new building. Nevertheless, the owners realised that, - n providing the ordinary amenities for human comfort and convenience, the possibility of fire was always present. To guard against loss of life and disruption of business, they felt it necessary to secure themselves against this risk by using the best fire alarm system obtainable. After careful investigation of the various systems on the market they chose the Sentinel fire alarm, which was supplied by Messrs. Turnbull and Jones, Limited. This remarkable system has been in use in a very large number of public buildings in New Zealand for the last ten years. The invention ‘is a New Zealand one, aud the manufacture of the equipment is also carried out in New Zealand. It is infallible in operation, and the question of maintenance is very small. The moment the temperature in any part of the building rises above what is known to be a safe value, this ingenious system immediately notifies the fire station direct. By an electric device installed iu the building, the exact location of the fire is indicated, so that, no time is wasted by the brigade in reaching the spot.
