BISCUIT & CONFECTIONERY WORKERS

Application For Dominion Award By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, April 10. An application for a Dominion award by the New Zealand Federated Biscuit and Confectionery Industrial Association of Workers was heard at a Conciliation Council to-day. Objection was raised to the proceedings on the grounds that the Wellington and Nelson districts had no organisations competent to act for the workers. The main questions in dispute were the wages for youths and female workers. The employers had increased their last offer of 13/6 to 15/- for youths during the first six months and of 11/3 to 12/6 for females during the first six months. The employees are considering the amended offer this afternoon. The union submitted proposals for an increase of approximately 1/- a week in the wages of youths and girls. The wages of adults were agreed upon. It was agreed that the amended proposals be submitted to a meeting of the federation of employers in the industry and that the hearing be adjourned to May 10.
