Last Week City Coffers Gain £50,000 i PENALTY AFTER TO-DAY To-day is the latest day a Wellington ratepayer may pay his rates for the current year and avoid the 10 per cent, penalty. Should he choose to leave the settlement of this municipal account until to-morrow or a later date, he will have to pay for it. Last week easily established a record for the year in rate receipts. Approximately £50,000 was taken over the counter or by mail from Monday morning until uoon on Saturday. Of that sum £32,000 was taken ou Friday and Saturday, about half of it each day. This final rush meant that the staff of the rates office was kept at work until 5.30 p.m. on Saturday.
