HUTT VALLEY NEWS

The average weekly number of Scheme 5 men on the roads and schools during January was 144, according to the report of the overseer, Mr. H. Dyer, presented at the meeting of the Hutt County Council yesterday. No men were working “over the fence.” In January, 1934, 263 men were employed. The overseer reported also that eight building permits to the value of £3605 bad been issued during the month. At present the staff of the Hutt Val--1 ley Electric Power Board is busier than ■ it has.been for years, said the engineer and general manager, Mr. E. F. Hollands, yesterday. Owing to the drought a considerable number of ' consumers ' had started water pumping, and baches at Titahi Bay, Pukerua Bay and at other, seaside resorts were going in for extensions. The range-hire scheme, said Mr. Hollands, was progressing . very satisfactorily.

MOTOR-BOAT CLUB

New Body Formed in Hutt Valley A decision to form a club which will be knovn as the Hutt Valley Motor Boat Club was reached at a meeting of launch ownerh and crews recently. About 40 persons were present. A constitution has been adopted and the following officers have been appointed: — Patron. Mr. W. Nash, M.P.; president, Mr. John McDonald ; vice-presidents, Messrs. Scholfieid, J. W. Andrews, T. Walsh, G. Burney, L. Stewart. J. Murning, Carroll, Lochhead, K. Brown, P. Shaw, Burton, Thomas Burn, John Burn, Passmore, senior. Passmore, junior, Buckland, senior, J. R. Croft; commodore, Mr. C. Garrood; vice-com-modore, Mr. G. Hook; rear-commodore, Mr. Hannan; secretary, Mr. S. Reid; treasurer, Mr. C. Reid; committee, Messrs. Andrews. Hey. Bucltland. junior, McDonald, Mudge, Gjerson; auditors, Messrs. .Wilson, A. Judd; trustees, Messrs. J. McDonald, A. Aldretl, W. Burn. The club’s colours will be white with red, and a crescent house flag and code flag H. It is the intention of the club to promote racing of motor-boats under power and sail, and to build two slipways and a shed on the Hutt River. The roll contains 50 members and 25 motor-boats, and the present headquarters are at the shingle works at the mouth of the Hutt River.

A Record'' Collection . Thursday was,'the last day on which rates for the Eastbourne Borough T could be . paid without the imposition ’ of the 10 per cent, penalty. The Town ’ Clerk and’general manager (Mr. C. L. ’ Bishop) announced yesterday that the 2 collection exceeded by about £lOOO the total amount of approximately, £10,300 struck for the current year.
