NORMAL HOURS
Schools in Hawke’s Bay District
BOARD’S DECISION
By Telegraph.—fress Association.
Hastings, February 12.
The executive committee of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board decitted to-day that as from Monday, February 18, the schools in the Hawke’s Bay district will revert to normal hours of attendance. Each head teacher will have authority, however, in conjunction with the chairman of his school committee, to close his school on the afternoon of a very hot day. In towns where there are more than one school, the board recommends uniform action. This, of course, may not always be necessary or desirable. Conditions in the older type of school which is not so well ventilated as the modern school may be such as would justify its closing, whereas the closing might not be necessary in the modern type of school. The board feels sure the head teacher and the chairman and his school committee will exercise a wise discretion. , The board also decided to recommend that all outside assemblies of children should be of the shortest possible duratiqn during the hot weather. Already cases have come under notice where children have fainted, although they were standing in line for only a few minutes.
