IN THE KITCHEN A pot-pourri of suggestions that will be found of value in the kitchen: — Make a habit of saving soap scraps if you don’t use a '‘soap saver.” Periodically these can be allowed to melt in a saucepan of boiling water. Bottle when cool, and use a few drops in the 'washing water as required. In wet weather it is an excellent plan to clean out your fuel stove before retiring, and reset the kindling ready for use next morning. The heat from the stove will dry the wood, and it will light reg.dily when wanted. A little vinegar in the washing-up water iclll help to remove grease, and will ensure a better gloss on the china. Vinegar also will remove the odour from pans in which fish has been cooked. Soda has the disadvantage that it makes the hands rough and harsh. Rock ammonia is an effective substitute ■in the washing-up water, and will not affect the hands in the same icay. As an act of courtesy to your tradespeople, see that orders are ready whew travellers call. This has the personal advantage that you will not be caught in the middle of some domestic' task that cannot be left.
