RATEPAYERS’ POSITION
Water Supply Cut Off MAKARA COUNCIL MEETING Several ratepayers of Ngabauranga have been, placed in an awkward position following the cutting off of their water supply from a private reservoir. A letter from them was received by the Makara County Council at its meeting yesterday asking that the Wellington City Council be approached for an extension of its own system to serve them. Cr. C. H. Phillips said that the people were without water, and he suggested the city engineer be asked what chance there was of getting water. On the motion of the chairman, Mr. R. W. Bothamley, it was decided to consult the City Corporation. A correspondent wrote drawing the county’s attention to the fact that ragwort was in flower in Tawa Flat and Porjrua. It was decided to refer this to the Department of Agriculture. A suggestion that when road deviations are made the old roads, instead of being closed, should be left open to provide parking places for motorists was made by the Automobile Association (Wellington) in a letter. This arrangement would provide picnic places and would increase the safety of the roads. The 'County foreman, Mr. J, Martin, reported as follows on the work of the past month: Titahi Riding.—Surface of Thoms Road was improved with a coating of rotten rock, and streets were cleaned up prior to the holidays. Belmont Riding.—The culvert in Sievers Road had been completed. On the South Takapau Road the gorse had been cut back. Tawa Riding.—Work would be commenced at an early date for the repairs to the decking of the Beauchamp Street bridge. Ohariu Riding.—Metalling had been done on the Valley, Main and Mill Roads. Ngabauranga Riding.—Metalling had been done on Raroa, Khandallah, Glenmire and Wakefield Roads. Makara Riding.—Work had been done on Main, South, Beach and John-sonville-Makara roads.
