Funeral of Mrs. Hannah
Murphy, M.B.E. .Many citizens and representatives of publie bodies attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Hannah' Murphy, M.8.E., yesterday afternoon, and there was abundant proof that Wellington and patiotic bodies for whom she had done so much and for whom she had worked for so many years mourned her loss. The wreaths and floral tributes filled the carriage and the two following cars, and the funeral procession was a lengthy one. The Rev. T. R. Richards, of Wesley Church, conducted a service at Mrs. Murphy’s late residence, arid the Rev. G. S. Cook offered prayer, the two officiating ministers being associated at the graveside. The chief mourners were deceased’s four sons. Messrs. J. W. Murphy, C. F. Murphy, R. J. Murphy and H. Murphy, and the pallbearers were Qolonel G. Mitchell. Major C. A. L. Treadwell and Captain R. 11. Nimmo, representing the returned soldiers, and Messrs. R. Leckie, F. Tolley and W. Davis, three old employees of Mrs. Murphy. Among those present were Colonel A. Cowles, president of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association ; Colonel R. S. McQuarrie, vice-president; Dr. Murdo Mcßae; Mr. F E. MacDonald; Captain H. Marshall; Mr. L. Hill; the Hon. W. Berry, M.L.C, Dominion vicepresident of-the Returned Soldiers’ Association; Mr. F. Harrison, secretary of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association; Major, A. Gorton, assistant secretary; Colonel G. T. Hall; Major J. T. Watson, formerly secretary of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association; Wing Commander T. M. Wilkes; Major T. J. King; Mr. J. Steliin, representing the Anzac Mounted Division Association; Mr. R. Darroch, tepresenting the Navy League; Mr. C. M. Luke; Mt. W. A. Barton and Mr. B. Warwick. Also present were a large number of the rose workers with whom Mrs. Murphy had been associated, among them being Miss Griffiths. Mrs. Carroll, Mrs. Coffin, Mrs. Rountree.
