COMPENSATION FOR CREW

Washington, January 9.

An American-Canadian Arbitration Commission decided to-daj’ that the United States should apologise for the sinking of the Canadian schooner I’m Alone by an American coastguard vessel in March, 1929, and pay Canada 25,000 dollars compensation. Canada had claimed 386,000 dollars. Supreme. Court Justice Vandeventer and Chief Justice Duff, of Canada, presided. The Commission further decided that no compensation should be allowed the owners for either ship or cargo. The master ami the crew were not found guilty of smuggling, and were therefore ordered to be compensated for the loss of clothing and effects and imprisonment. The amount of compensation to the crew will be 25,666 dollars
