SAMOAN BANANAS

Monthly Shipments to

Auckland

In his address to the Samoa Legislative Council on November 6, the Administrator, Mr. 11. E. Hart, made the welcome statement that the Administration had been seriously considering the question of new markets and shipping facilities and had arranged with the Union Company for a monthly steamer to carry consignments of bananas to Auckland, commencing with the Waikawa on January 19. A total of 4000 cases a month would be carried until April, 3000 cases from May to September, then reverting to 4000 cases a month for the rest of the year. The “Samoa Herald” says: “This is welcome news indeed, a*d will aid greatly to relieve the depression, for at the present time there is a large surplus of bananas, and more plantations are coming into bearing.”
