ARAPUNI EXTENSIONS
One Hundred Men at Work
Dominion Special Service • Auckland. November 29. The work of preparing the founda tions for the additions to the Araptini power-house is well advanced. Two additional units are to-be installed as soon as the foundations are readv. .About 100 men are employed in removing a large quantity of rock to make room for the extensions A needle-dam is being constructed in the Waikato River to provide dry conditions at the base of the new power-house. The dam consists of five concrete piers, joined with steel gir ders. The interstices between lhe piers and the girders will be tilled in with timber and sandbags and the hollows In the river-bed upstream from the dam will be pumped dry A great deal of excavation work has yet to be done, and no material for the additions is yet on the site
.Since the main transmission line was constructed between Arapuni and Taranaki last winter. Arapuni has been called upon frequently to supply power to Taranaki and other southern pro vinces of the North slnnd All the foul units installed at Arapuni are in opera tion when required.
