STORMY VOYAGE

Prolonged stormy weather during the voyage from Seychelles Islands was experienced by the steamer Orangemoor, which arrived at Auckland yesterday morning. Although the vessel was considerably buffeted by the storms, with her decks repeatedly Hooded, no damage was done. After loading for 28 days at Assumption Island, in the Seychelles group, the Orangemoor sailed for Auckland on October 12 with over 8000 tons of < argo. During the passage across the Indian Ocean a succession of easterly gales was experienced until the vessel was nearing the Australian coast, when the wind changed to directions varying from west to south-west, accompanied by high head seas. The storms continued during her passage along the ‘Australian coast and delayed her progress considerably. Owing to the delay she had to replenish her bunkers at Port Keinbla, where she. arrived on November 19. She sailed again the following day. and during the remainder of the voyage line weather prevailed.

Although the Orangemoor’s voyage was delayed, she has arrived much earlier than required to deliver her cargo, which is for discharge at Auckland and New Plymouth. In consequence she has been anchored in the stream ')’ Birkenhead, where she will remain until the first week in January. She will then be moved to King’s Wharf to commence discharging. Another steamer, the Treherbert, is due from Seychelles Islands on Friday morning with a full cargo of guano for discharge at Auckland and Wanganui. Different arrangements were made with regard to the delivery of her cargo, and she* will commence discharge as soon as she berths.
