A perfect example of a benign English spring day greeted the Australian cricketers for the opening match of the tour at Worcester. The wicket appeared true and easy, and the outfield much faster than is normal at the beginning of the season. The Australian team is: Woodfull. Ponsford, Bradman. Kippax, McCabe, O’Reilly, Bromley, Ebeling, Grimmett, Oldfield and Wall. The Worcestershire team is Wallers. B. W. Quaife, Pataudi. Howarth. Gibbons, Nichol, Martin, Brook. Jackson, Perks, and Bull. Worcester batted first. Scores are : — WORCESTERSHIRE. First Innings. Walters, not out 2 $ Gibbons b. Ebeling 0 Pataudi. run out 44 Nichols, not out 6 Extras 4 Total for two wickets 52 A later message states that at lunch Worcstershire had lost five wickets for 63. The hours of play for the Australian cricketers versus counties will be: First dav—noorn to 6.30; second —11 30 to 6.30; third—ll.3o to 5.30 or 11 o’clock to 5 to facilitate travelling arrangements.
