English Golf Tournament London, May 1. In the Dunlop golf tournament 119 players with scores of 153 and under qualified. The competition proper will be over 72 holes. The leaders in the qualifying rounds were: Mitchell and E. Whitcombe, 137; R. Whitcombe and Compston, 139; Padgham and Allis, 141; King, 142; Perry and C. Whitcombe, 143; Easter-, brook aud Havers, 144; Lacey and Cotton, 145. Others included: Ray, 147; Denny and Hodson, 148; Dailey aud Davies (last year’s winner), 149: Duncan, 151; Seymour, 153. The feature of to-day’s play was when Mitchell, who is 48 years of age, shared the leading place. His second round score was 66. Mitchell to date has had a wonderful season, and critics consider that since he returned to hickory shafts, he hits the ball more accurately than ever.
