RABBIT-PROOF FENCES

Department’s Assistance CONSIDERATION ON MERITS A request to the Minister of Lands at the last meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union that landowners hounded by unoccupied Crown lands and Native lands be assisted to erect rabbit-proof fences on' rabbit-infested country was replied to by letter by the Hon. E. A. Hansom at yesterday’s meeting of the executive. The Minister stated that the Government could not assume- financial responsibility in a general way, but so far as the Lauds' Department was concerned, if such landowners had been financially assisted by way of a loan, applications for further assistance for the erection of rabbit-proof fences would be given consideration on their merits.
