FAMILY’S GREAT RECORD.

The death of Mr. F. F. Smallpeice, at Guildford, Surrey, recently, drew attention to the (act that he was the fourteenth member of his family to be mayor, of the borough. The first, Thomas Smalpis", was mayor in 1502. during the reign of Henry VII. By 1552 the name had been altered and no fewer than seven members of the family occupied the mayoral chair during the reign of Queen Elizabeth. A John Smalpeecc held oflice in the time of Queen Anne and a namesake in that of William IV. It was not till 1905. sixty-nine years later, that the late F. F. Smallpeice was elected to office. The record is likely to stand. Altogether, the Smallp«iees have served Guildford for over 400 years.
