Further Deliberations RESOLUTIONS CARRIED Owing to meetings of the executive and committees being held on Saturday morning, the usual session of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union Convention did not open till 11 a.m. yesterday, when devotions were taken by Mrs. Cook, of Auckland. A very fine convention service was held in" the Vivian Street Baptist Church at 7 p.m. on Sunday, when Rev. L. J. Boulton-Smith was the preacher. Yesterday morning’s devotions were taken by the “Y’s,” the musical items being a special feature. Misg Appleby, the “Y” president, was in the chair. The report on the “White Ribbon,” read by the editor, Mrs. S. D. Peryman, showed that there were 3719 subscribers. Badges were distributed to those unions who had gained at least 25 per cent, increase in number of “White Ribbon” subscribers. Te Awamutu heading the list with 22. Mr. Gutbrie, ou behalf of the “Y” conference, expressed thanks to the adult conference for kindnesses received. Mrs. S. D. Peryman and Mrs. Brewer were appointed delegates to the executive meeting of the New Zealand branch of the Women's Pan-Pacific Association.

The report of the “Y” conference was read by the Dominion president, Miss Appleby, and was duly adopted. The report of the Young People’s Christian Temperance Union, prepared by the superintendent, Miss Catherine M. McLay, was also adopted. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the Baptist Churches, and vocal items were given by Mrs. Carpenter. ; A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs. Brooker, sister of Mr. E. R. Boucher, the victim of Saturday’s air crash. The following banners were presented :— For actual increase in adult member-

ship: Oamaru and Dunedin Central, equal. For percentage: Hikurangi. For highest actual increase in membership to the "Y" Union: Riccarton. For largest cradle roll: Nelson. For cra.dle roll percentage increase: Otautau. For greatest number of Band of Hope pledged members: Riccarton. Loyal Temperance Legion Banner: Nelson. The following resolutions were passed:— “That all halls used for public dances be compelled to register. “That all unions co-opcrate in observing the annual Women’s Day of Prayer. “That Parliament be urged to establish a national compulsory superannuation scheme. “That the W.C.T.U. use its influence to support sister organisations in urging the Government to make the use of contraceptives by unmarried people illegal.” “That youths under 18 years of age working on farms be exempt from the wages tax, and their assessment for board be reduced to 10/- a week.” The evening session was taken up with the discussion of various reports.
