FIRST TESTS MADE

New Radio Station, 3YA

RECEPTION CLEAR & LOUD

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, December 1.

Music from the new 3YA station at Gebbie’s Pass was heard by radio listeners last night, when the first unofficial tests on the air were carried out. Recorded music was sent out on 720 kilocycles, the old frequency of station 2YA and the allotted frequency of the new 3YA.

Although it was a test for equipment and not for reception, radio sets in the city received the first broadcast in volume and clarity that surprised listeners.

The new station will operate officially on December 14.
