FORESTS & RAINFALL
Meteorologist’s Comment By Telegraph.—Press Association. Pahiatua, November 30. The Dominion Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson), in the course of some observations supplied locally concerning climatic records, says that one continually saw statements regarding the effect of forests on rainfall which completely ignored the evidence. Most careful investigations on the subject had been made in many countries, he said, and the only conclusion that could be drawn was that if the forests had any effect on the rainfall it must be very slight, and was most unlikely to be important in New Zealand. a narrow country with a high rainfall, and surrounded by great expanses of ocean.
