MEN ON RELIEF WORK
Arrangements for Holidays RAILWAY CONCESSIONS Information as to whether relief workers were’ to be granted holidays during Christmas and New Year with-* out loss of pay was sought by Mr. K. J. Holyoake (Govt., Motueka) iu a question put to the Minister of Employment, Hon. Adam Hamilton, iu the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. He also asked if transport facilities would be extended to those desirous of visiting their homes. Mr. Hamilton said it bad been decided that practically the same arrangements as were made for the last Christmas and New Year period would operate during the coming festive season. The details bad not yet been finalised, but it was anticipated that a circular outlining the whole of the arrangements would be issued this week to the certifiying officers throughout the Dominion. So far as railway travel was concerned. relief workers iu other than standard public works camps and also gold, prospectors who were working away from home would be granted quarter rates for the railway journey when proceeding to and from their homes. Where railway facilities were not available the Unemployment Board would adopt the procedure in operation last year and meet half the return fare.
