NOTED DOCTOR DEAD
Conqueror of Diphtheria Paris, November 3. The death is announced of Dr. Pierre Paul Roux, bacteriologist and discovcrer of the diphtheria anti-toxin. Dr. Pierre Roux was bora iu 1853 and after studying medicine was appointed to the Faculty of Medicine in Paris, where he remained from 1874 to 1878. Then, (or ten years, he worked with Pasteur in his laboratory before being appointed to a post in the Pusteur Institute. In 1904 he became director of the institute, a post he held until 1918. Dr. Roux did a great deal of research in collaboration with Pasteur, and studied the treatment of infections diseases, including hydrophobia, He also studied anthrax and produced vaccipes against this disease.’ With Behring, he introduced the use of an antitoxin in diphtheria, and with him was awarded the Nobel prize tor their work on serum therapeutics.
