TREASURE HUNTERS

Ball Held at Palmerston The “Treasure Hunt Ball” took place in Palmerston North recently to aid the candidature of the Public Services’ Queen, Miss Kathleen Richards, in the queen carnival, at present being conducted for charity in Palmerston North. Modern and oldtime dancing was enjoyed to the music of the Public Services’ orchestra. A treasure hunt, in which participants were required to bring back twenty-five scattered articles, was the main theme of the ball. After an exciting chase the winners announced were Mr. W. McKenzie, 1 (24 out of 25 articles; Miss A. S. Rees, 2 (23)'; and Mr. Taylor, 3. A consolation prize was awarded to Mr. Buckeridge. Four pupils of Miss Gwen Gibbs (Misses J. Reid, I. Brown, D. Berryman, and A. Robson) gave an exhibition of dancing, and supper was served by the energetic ladies’ committee. WANGANUI NOTES Mrs. Ken. Prouse was the guest of honour at a delightful party given by the Misses Newrick at their home in Wicksteed Street, Wanganui, on Saturday evening, prior to her leaving for North Auckland. .Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Gordon, Manakau, are the guests of s(r. and Mrs. F. B. Clark, Wanganui, for the ClarkNewsome wedding. The Wanganui Orchestral Society concluded its 1933 season at the Opera House on Thursday evening, when there was a very fair attendance. The soloists were Miss Iris Eggers and Mr. D. L. Blight. St. Barnabas Church, Wanganui, benefited by £9O as the result of the allday bazaar held in the Drill Hall on Friday. The bazaar was opened by the mayoress, Mrs. N. G. Armstrong. The staff of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board held .an enjoyable dance and card evening on Thursday, at. which a number of the directors were present.
