SURF ASSOCIATION

First Annual Meeting SUCCESSFUL YEAR A very successful year’s operations were reviewed iu the report presented at the first annual meeting of the Wellington Surf Association last week. Mr. W. J. Beveridge presided over u large attendance of delegates from Eastbourne, Lyall Bay, Island Bay, Otaki, Paekakariki, Worser Bay, and Maranui.' The report stated that the standard of drill in. the various competitions held last season was well’ above the usual. It placed stress on the future value of the training given to the young members of the various clubs during the season. Full field days will be held during January, February, and March, and an extra full field day will be held on Anniversary Day, these field days to embrace not only surf events, but also other events, preference to be given to water events. In view of the desire of the association to equip itself with all the most up-to-date appliances for the conduct of competitions, it was decided to request tb° director-of reserves to grant permission for a collection to be taken up on the beaches on the days set apart as full field days. Mr. H. E. Evan, who was champion surf boatman of Australia for many years, was appointed honorary chief surf instructor to the association. The election of officers resulted > — Chairman, Mr. W. J.
