WEEK-END GOLF

Annual Watt Cup Field Day NINETY PAIRS ENGAGED Ninety pairs took part yesterday in the annual field day held by the clubs which engage in the Watt Cup competition. The event was conducted this year on the Shandon links, which were in splendid order. A foursome bogey competition in the morning was won by C. Marchbanks and C. Hollis, of the Shandon club, with 6 up, and a fourball best-ball competition in the afternoon resulted in a tie between J. Lulham and C. Gyles, of the Titahi club, and N. Maitland and G. B. Ward, of the Waiwetu club, both finishing 9 up. They tossed for the trophy,. the Titahi pair winning. Mr. G. H. A. Swan, president of the Shandon club, presented the prizes to the winners. CLUB COMPETITIONS Manor Park Championships The intermediate championship of the Manor Park club, over 36 holes, was played off during the week-end. K. Hendry took the title, defeating his brother, W. E. Hendry, by 4 up and 3 to play. The junior championship was won by A. McKinnon, who beat E.. Palliser in the 36-holes final by 10 up and 9 to go. . A fourball best-ball competition was won by J. D. Mclntosh (scr.) and A. McClure (11), with the splendid card of 10 up. Mclntosh was in brilliant form, completing the course in 71, 34 out and 37 home. A bogey match resulted in a tie between J. Burns (8) and B. Brookman (IS), who both finished all square. In a medal competition there was a tie between J. Pope (16) and W. E. Hendry (12), who both did 72 net. Shandon Club A bogey match played on the Shandon links on Saturday was won by A. J. Runciman, who finished 5 iip. Manor Park Ladies’ Club The winner of the medal competition played by the Shandon Ladies’ Club on Saturday, in conjunction with the L.G.U. round, was Mrs. Burns, with the excellent card of 89-17-72. Miss Yorston returned the best score in the juniors, with 108-32-76. A bogey competition was won by Miss Stevens, 4 down, and Miss Stevens and Mrs. Burns tied in a medal match with 99-14-81. The winners of the fourball competition played throughout the season were Mrs. Butler and Miss Willis, who added another win to their credit yesterday by defeating Miss Gaynor and Miss Yorston, 1 up. This pair have not had one loss iu the whole competition. The ringer competition, played on half handicap, was also concluded yesterday, Miss Wiilis being first, with a card reading 67-8-59. She was closely followed by Miss Stevens, 67-7-60. A social evening will be held in the clubhouse on Saturday. Shandon Ladies’ Club The final of the Shandon ladies’ championship was played off .on Saturday. Miss Hodgins beating Mrs. Burke at the twentieth. The game was a very even one, and both played good golf. The final of the Sunflower Cup was also played off, Miss Sidford, of the week-end club, defeating Mrs. Richards, mid-week club, by 5 and 4. An approaching and putting competition for the Bourke Cup was won by Miss Z. Rowe. , , The ringer competition for the season was won by Mrs. Burke. A medal round (secretary’s trophy), for players who had not won a competition this season, was won by Miss N. Kendall, 107-36-71. Miss Hodgins won the L.G.U. silver medal, and Miss Ellison the L.G.U. bronze medal for the 1933 season. Titahi Ladies’ Club In the final of the Titahi ladies’ senior championshin, at the week-end, Miss Wilson beat Miss McKee, 4 and 2. The final of the junior championship was won by Miss Davis, who beat Miss Hollis, 1 up. .. In the final of the C division championship, Miss Shead beat Mrs. H. Dodson, 4 and 3. The Titahi Handicap was won by Miss Hervey, who beat Mrs. Boon in the final by 3 and 2. A bogey match was won by Miss Hollis. who finished all square. The closing day will be held on November 12, when a mixed foursome for the Meade Cup will be played, and a putting competition will be held in the afternoon.
