Proposed Paremata Bridge The Minister of Public Works, Hon. J. Bitchener, has informed the Hutt County Council and Mr. W. H. Field, M.P. for Otaki, that tlie Government has agreed to authorise a toll being collected when the Paremata bridge has been completed. The Minister has written as follows to Mr. Feild :— “Paremata Bridge and Road Loan. —Referring to previous interviews that you have had with myself and my predecessor regarding the abovementioned bridge and road, I have much pleasure in informing you that I have advised the chairman of the Local Government Loans Board and the Hutt County Council that, on completion of the bridge, I am prepared to recommend the issue of- an Order-in-Council authorising the collection of tolls from users of.the bridge.” It is anticipated that, following this announcement, the Local Government Loans Board will authorise the Hutt County Council to ask the ratepayers of Taupo riding to agree to raise a loan for the erection of the bridge, which is to cross an arm of Porirua Harbour a short distance north of Paremata.
