FINAL DAY OF MANAWATU SHOW
Big Attendance Recorded at Every Session GRAND PARADE OF PRIZE-WINNERS Final Competition Events; Kennel Club Show Results Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, November 3. The Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Metropolitan Spring Show was concluded this evening after a successful season of three days and three nights. Glorious summer weather accompanied by a slight cooling breeze resulted in large attendance of the public at all sessions. The grand parade of prize-winning animals was held this afternoon and made a colourful display as the various animals paraded around the show ring to finish in mass formation in the middle of the oval. The parade of stock was an excellent one, and was ample evidence that quality is being sought after by breeders of to-day. The stock was in excellent condition and represented some of the best blood in the North Island.
To-day there were many school children at the show grounds. Parties were present from the Feilding Agricultural High School and the Woodville District High School, in addition to the country schools throughout the district. The pupils of the Feilding Agricultural High School were given a demonstration on Friesian cattle by Mr. J. P. Kalaugher, secretary of the Friesian Cattle Breeders’ Association. The entries in the Boys and Girls’ Agricultural Club’s annual calf-rearing competition were judged this morning. The animals were in splendid condition and revealed the care and treatment which they had received from the youthful breeders. Horse jumping events were continued in the ring this afternoon, when the champion pony jump and open hunters’ competitions were finalised. The gate takings yesterday disclosed a decrease on the takings for the second day of the Royal Show and the 1931 Spring Show. The takings yesterday at all sessions were £298/4/4, compared with £449/6/11 for the Royal Show and £612/17/6 for the Spring Show in 1931, The takings for the first two days of this year’s fixture total £5OO/15/-, compared with £757/17/- for the Royal Show and £B3l/2/6 for the 1931 Spring Show. Mr. W. J. Eames (Hunterville) won outright the O’Connor and Tydeman silver cup for yearling Friesian bulls. This was Mr. Eames’s second successive win.
