SPLENDID SUCCESS

“Back-to-Childhood” Ball The Town Hall, was the scene last evening of what looked like a huge party for overgrown children, all enjoying themselves immensely. In reality it was the “Back to Childhood” Ball organised by the committee for the transport and power princess in the National Confidence Carnival, Miss Eve Craddock. The organisation was complete in every detail, and the large committee and all the sub-committees had worked perfectly together to achieve the successful result. 'There was a splendid attendance. The four princesses were present and members of their committees, but among all the big-little girls and boys dancing round the gaily decorated nursery it was impossible, to be certain of anyone’s identity. It is safe to say, however, that they wore fresh short frocks of checked gingham, of romper suits of gathered voile, organdie aprons and Peter Pan collars, and had their hair tied wi.th outstanding bows of broad ribbon. The management was in the hands of Mr. Frank Kennedy, Mr. W. E. Trott, chairman of the amusement committee, and Mr. J. W. Fergle, chairman of the transport and power committee. Mr. J. Gibbons, chairman of the princess executive, rendered splendid service. The catering was arranged by the Hutt Railway Workshops under the direct control of Mr. W. Burton. Mr. Parr was in charge of the tea and coffee. Their helpers were Mr. and Mrs. Maguire, Messrs. O’Shea, Facey and Lendrum. Mr. Graham was in charge of cakes, etc., and had the help of Mr. and Mrs. Bonifant, Mrs. Lennie, Miss Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Cohen, Mr. and Mrs. Leopard, Mrs. Stewart, Mr. J. Robinson, and Mr. F. Ashman. The doors and stalls came under the direct control of Mr. D. McGillivray, with helpers as follow: Mr. F. Cocker, chief doorkeeper, Messrs. J. Hunter, R. Bell, R. Pritchard, A. Irving, F. Hollis, G. Leonard, G. Stoekley, P. Yates, C. Peterson, G. Quinlan, 11. Tungett, R. J. Stayers, E. R. Foster, G. Fowler, doorkeepers. The stall-holders were Messrs. L. Leonard, chief stall-holder; J. Howarth, A. Blight and C. 11. Wteon, ice cream and drink stalls; Mr. 14. Minifie, Airs. Riddick, Mrs. Leonard, novelty stall; Messrs. H. Liardet, decorations, and T. A. Christison, general duties. The ticket boxes were in charge of Mr. W. S. Back, with the following helpers: Messrs. A. Mclntyre, O. E. Castle, McLaggan and Wakelyn. Mr. G. G. Stewart, chairman of the Confidence Carnival executive, and Mrs. Stewart acted as judges of the' costumes. During the evening there was a clever American tap-dance ballet by pupils, of Miss Kath Nickels, the dancers being dressed in pink play frocks. There can be no question that the ball was an outstanding success, and. all those who took part in the arrangements are to be congratulated on the result of their efforts.
