HALLOW-E’EN PARTY

Scots Concert at Waipawa A successful Scots Hallow-e’en party was organised by the Waipawa Home and School League on Tuesday last, when the municipal concert hall was filled to overflowing. Mr. McKenzie and Mr. Jack Barlow, of Wuipukuram,, were the pipers, and to the sound of the bagpipes a party of young Highland dancers entered the hall and were led to the platform, which was arranged as a sitting room and decorated with vases of marigolds. The first item in the programme was a Scotch play, full of pawky Scots humour, and entitled “Miss Grlzell’s Hallowe’en,” the performers being Mesdames Bibby, Lockhart, Preston, Strang, Walker, and Miss Bibby. A choir of school children under Mr, V. Hobin sang “Will Ye No Come Back Again?” and other national songs. The programme included Scottish songs by Mr. and Mrs. Dyson, Mrs. Strang, Mr. Barker, and Mr. Rawlings, pianoforte solo by Mrs. Arrow, and recitations by Mrs. Walker, Mr. Harker, and Miss Nella Noell. The Highland dancing was of outstanding merit, the items being as follow: —Highland fling, Miss Jean Johuston and Master Derrick Driver; sword dance, Miss Marie Preston; Highland reel, Misses McKenzie, Davy, McLean, and Johnston. Mr. McKenzie gave a bagpipe item, as well as furnishing the music for the dances. A very pretty item was an Irish jig by Miss Nola Begley. The Rev. W. T. Drake led the com-

munity sing and also organised a romp for the children in the supper interval. After supper an old-time dance concluded the evening’s entertainment. Mr. Mackenzie played the pipes for tho Highland schottische, and Mrs. Strang was at the piano for the other dances. A number of visitors from Waipukurau and the outlying districts were present.
