WOMEN’S DIVISION
Wairarapa Council Meets
An intensive campaign for new members is to be launched by the Wairarapa Provincial Council of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Detailed arrangements were made at a meeting of the council held in Masterton on Wednesday afternoon. The member enrolling the largest number of new financial members in the coming year is to be awarded a prize. All branches are to be urged to organise girls’ junior branches and to get them interested. in the aims of the division. It is hoped that the girls will maintain their interest a time goes on and ultimately become useful senior members.
It was reported that during the past three months thirty applications for housekeepers had been met. Half of those applicants paid the full amount of the housekeepers’ wages, while others paid from 5/- a week upward, leaving the branches and the council to pay the balance. Heavy demands were made on the council, and it was reported to be in great need of additionai funds, in order that help could be given in cases where it was warranted. Nine housekeepers were stated to be kept fully occupied in the Wairarapa at present, and it was anticipated that these conditions would be little changed up to Christmas.
