EXTRA WORK SOUGHT
Christmas Relief Pay The job delegates of the Wellington Relief Workers’ Union, at a meeting this week, decided to organise a deputation of all job delegates to the Unemployment Board to request an extra £1 worth of work for each of the four weeks preceding Christmas. . In order to arrange for the deputation, it was decided to approach the YVellington City Council for the free use of the Basin Reserve and the Soccer ground at Rougotai to hold meetings on Sunday afternoon, November 10. It is felt that the circumstances of relief workers render them unable to celebrate Christmas as a season of cheer without, this extra aid. The union has established a club room for members at 114 Taranaki Street, where reading matter, a free library, and tlie morning and evening daily papers are available to members. It is hoped by next winter to establish a buffet where single men will’be able to receive ot(e hot meal a day free.
