ROAD RESURFACING
Three Grades of “Cures”
So far there has been no decision of the Wellington City and Suburban Highways Board to continue the resurfacing of the Main Hutt Road. The strips already done on the city side of Ngahauranga appear to indicate that the Corporation engineers have evolved the right solution necessary for the work, but it is thought the board would prefer a longer time test before pushing on with the major job. The last job of the sort done by the Highways Board is the resurfacing of about three-quarters of a mile of the old military road just beyond Lower Hutt. in this work there are three “cures” of solution —rapid, medium and slow —and it all depends on the climate and the nature of the traffic which “cure” is selected. If anything the slow “cure” is considered preferable where traffic is not too heavy, as it can be levelled out and shaved for some ten days after it is first laid down. The medium “cure” solution has been found most efficacious in Wellington, and is standing up well to the tests to which it has been submitted. The rapid “cure” is used where, in heavy traffic, a speedy job is required.
