DANCE AT LYALL BAY

Scots College Pavilion Fund

A large number of dancers visited “Ngaroma,” the home of Mr. and Sirs. Hope Gibbons, at Lyall Bay, last evening, for a ball arranged by the Scots College Parents’ Association, in aid of the pavilion fund. Huge bowls and baskets of arum lilies and graceful irises were placed in every corner of the spacious entrance hall and the main hall. The living-room, which was used for sit-ting-out, was decorated with lilies, making a striking contrast against the dark furnishings. Beautiful flowers were also arranged in bowls in the ballroom, and the dining-room, where supper was served, was gay with tulips and poppies. The committee members present were:—Mrs. A. P. Smith (who wore a wine-coloured lace and georgette gown), Mrs. C. S. Black (red lace with coatee), Mrs. J.'A. Foster (almond green satin, shoulder spray of mauve stock), Mrs. C. T. Newton (apricot taffetas), Mrs. Leuchars (black georgette), Mrs. Cooper (black lace), Mrs. Townsend (red elephant crepe), Mrs. Leslie Wall, Mrs; Scotland (blacklace).

Mrs. Hope Gibbons was wearving a lovely dress of crushed black velvet, with diamante cape. Miss Paddy Hope Gibbons was in a simply-cut frock, of white blistered crepe. During the evening Mr. Alex. P. Smith proposed a vote of thanks to the host and hostess, whose generous hospitality, he said, was wonderful. This was the third or fourth time they had lent their beautiful house in the interests of Scots College, and there were many other good muses they had helped in the same way. They had a very happy knack of appearing . to , enjoy themselves as much as their visitors, which was a groat help in creating the cheerful atmosphere that seemed to pervade their house. On behalf of the Scots College Parents’ Association, he thanked them again very sincerely for giving them the opportunity of holding this very successful evening. Mr. Hope Gibbons responded on behalf of himself and Mrs. Hope Gibbons. Among those present were:—Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Gilbert Sim, Mrs. A. Longmore, Mrs. Koeford, Mrs. E. Schneidoman, Mrs. H. Stringer, Mm T. Farrell, Mrs. T. F. Walshe, Mrs. McEwen, Mr. and Mrs. Chartres, Mrs. Endean, Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood, Mr. and Mrs. Virtue, Misses M. Smith, D. Cooper, Jean.
