Committal for Sentence POLICE COURT CASES A story of breaking and entering and the(t at Paraparaumu, and of being detained by residents there until the police arrived was told in the Police Court yesterday, when two labourers, Harry Ernest Schirnack, aged 23, and Albert Allen, aged 21, answered two charges of breaking and entering the shop of the Paraparaumu Dairy Co., Ltd., with intent to commit theft, and with theft. Both pleaded guilty before Mr. E. Page, S.M., and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Harold Charles Shearfold, manager of the store, gave evidence showing that it had -been 'broken into on September 27 or 28. He identified articles of clothing produced in court as having been missed. On October 18 the glass door of the shop had been broken and the office window had been prised open, but nothing was missing. Constable R. Smith, of I’aekakariki, said ’he went to Paraparaumu iu response to a telephone message received at about 4 a.ra. on October 18 and found Schirnack detained in front of the store by a number of residents. He was wearing a pair of gloves, and a torch was in his possession. With Schirnack, witness went to Allen’s house and found him in bed. In a: statement Allen said that Schirnack had entered the store on October IS while Allen kept watch. Allen heard a man approaching, shouted a warning to Schirnack, and went home to bed. Schirnack also admitted the offence in the statement. He did not hear Allen call out, and remained-in the building until caught by a. resident. Witness said he found the clothing! and cigarettes produced in Alien’s room. A jemmy was found next to the store which Schirnack said he bad used to enter the building. Evidence was also given by Detective A. Reid, who read statements in which accused admitted taking the articles from the-store on or about September 2S. Remands Granted A remaud until November 8 was granted to James McGlinchey. accountant, aged 35. who was charged with the theft of £63, the property of his employers, Yates Cash Stores Ltd. A further remand until November 8 was granted in the case of Frederick Burgcn Clark, painter, aged 32, who appeared on a charge of breaking and entering with intent to commit theft. Bail was fixed at £3OO, with two sureties of £l5O. Charges of breaking and entering the warehouse of E. Reynolds nnd Co. Ltd. with intent to commit theft, with committing theft therein, and of being idle and disorderly, were preferred against Ludwig Sigurd Larsen, labourer, aged 39, who was remanded to appear on November S.
