MAIN TRUNK FREIGHTS
Mr. Goodfellow’s Reply to Hon. A. D. McLeod * The following telegram has been sent by Mr. W. Goodfellow, managing director of Amalgamated Dairies Ltd., to the Hon. A. D. McLeod, M.P., following a telegram the latter sent to Mr. Goodfellow in reply to a former communication from him referring to questions concerning Main Trunk freights asked by Mr. McLeod in the House of Representatives:— “You have obviously been misled by interested parties. I have not nor ever have had any financial interest in any store or any other class of business dealing in foodstuffs or coal in the Wellington province. The New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company supplies no stores in Wellington, but sells produce to one wholesale merchant only, and at current prices. As an ex-member of Cabinet, and as one who believes in the principle of ‘Live and let live,’ one would expect you to be careful of your facts before publicly condemning any person or company, especially such a substantial and reputable concern as the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. You are evidently unaware that I resigned the management of the said dairy company eight years ago. but the manager would on request, I feel sure, promptly supply the fullest information to any responsible person.”
