Operations of Imperial Airways AUSTRALIAN MAIL LINK (British Official Wifeless.) Rugby, October 30. Presiding at a general’meeting of Imperial Airways to-day. Sir Erie Geddes referred to the extension of the Eng-land-India route to Australia. He said the service had been extended from Karachi to Rangoon, and by the end of December would be operating to Singapore. "The Australian Government,” be said, ‘‘has assumed the responsibility for establishing the line from Singapore to some point in Australia, and has decided to invite tenders for the carriage of air mails over that section of the line. Imperial Airways have made an agreement with the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services, Limited, of Brisbane, for the formation of a joint company to tender for the service, and’if successful to operate the Singapore-Darwin-Brisbane section of the England-Australia service.” A great deal of investigation was still being devoted to the North Atlantic project, and the company bad made satisfactory contracts in regard to co-operation with the Canadian and Newfoundland Governments on this route. “Canada is likely to be by force of circumstances the last of the great Dominions wjth whom we shall make a contract by means of regular air services,” Sir Eric said. ‘‘We cap, however, look forward to developments taking place on Uris trarisrAtlantiC project in complete harmony With Great Britain and Cahada.” , They hoped to establish during next year, in co-operation with Pan-Ameri-can Airways, a service between Bermuda aiid the United States. Sir Eric cited the large increase in traffic carried by Imperial Airways during the past year. 45 PER CENT. INCREASE Passengers, Rails and. Freights (Received October 31, 10.15 p.m.) London, October 31The striking progress made by Empire airlines is shown by the fact that for the six months ended September 30 passengers, mails, and freight on the Egyptian, BUrmese, and African routes recorded an all-round increase of 45 per cent. Compared with 1932. Forty thousand letters are now being sent by air mail to India weekly,. with an additional 14,000 weekly between Karachi and Calcutta.
